How Paint Colors Influence Buying Decisions

You shouldn’t pass on a good house because you don’t like the color of the walls and cabinets. Painting is a relatively easy fix and can even be done yourself, if you’re on a budget or want to save some money. Simply put, there are far more significant issues to watch out for as a home buyer. But just because you shouldn’t walk away from a house over paint colors doesn’t mean they don’t influence home buying decisions. In fact, according to one new analysis, home buyers will pay more for a house that has the right colors. How much more and which colors? Well, the study found out the where, what, and how much. For example, home buyers prefer olive green in the kitchen and would pay almost $1,600 more for a house that featured the muted green. Navy blue bedrooms are also popular and can bring in more than $1,800 over a home’s asking price. Other color options that resonate with buyers included a charcoal gray living room – which garners an additional $2,600 from buyers – and mid-tone browns in bathrooms. It seems, these days, home buyers prefer an earthy, organic color palette and are willing to pay for it.
